Why it exists

Every storage company publishes a size chart, and every chart says roughly the same thing: a one-bedroom needs about this, a three-bedroom about that. The charts aren't wrong, but they answer a question nobody actually has. You don't own an average one-bedroom. You own a specific bed, a specific sofa, and a number of boxes you could count if you had to.

So this site does the other half. Tell it what you own and it packs those items into each unit size and shows you the result, including which of your things get left on the pavement if you rent one size down. Renting too small is the expensive mistake, and it's the one a chart can't warn you about.

Where the numbers come from

Furniture volumes come from moving-industry cube sheets, the reference tables movers use when quoting a job. Box dimensions are the standard retail sizes sold by U-Haul and the big-box stores. The recommended sizes are checked against what Public Storage, U-Haul, CubeSmart, and Extra Space publish for each home size; where two of them disagree by a full unit size, we say so rather than pretending there's one right answer.

The packing itself is real geometry, not a volume shortcut. That's why the tool sometimes recommends a size larger than the chart does: cubic feet assume your belongings pour in like liquid, and a mattress does not pour.

Who makes it

FourFold Labs LLC, a small software company. We build tools we'd want to use ourselves, and this one started as a genuine argument about whether a queen bed fits in a five-by-ten. It does, standing on its edge.

How this is paid for
